FAQs

Here are answers to frequently asked questions:

Where is the foodbank centre?

Please go to the locations page to find the address and opening times of our foodbank centre. Please note you must have a referral from a registered agency to receive help from the foodbank. If you don’t have a referral please visit the Foodbank Referrals page for further information.

What’s in a typical food parcel?

A typical food parcel contains a minimum of three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable, tinned and dried foods that have been donated by the local community. A typical food parcel includes: breakfast cereal, soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, baked beans, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, instant mash, UHT milk, tea, coffee, sugar, tinned dessert and biscuits. Some foodbanks also provide fresh produce if they are able to.

Can the parcel be adapted to special dietary requirements?

Our foodbank can usually adapt your food parcel to suit your dietary needs. Just let us know when we call you to discuss your food requirements. We can provide specific parcels for a range of needs including people with diabetes, gluten intolerance, vegetarians and halal. We will also endeavour to adapt your parcel to accommodate any food allergies you indicate.

Will the food parcel cater for my whole family?

Our foodbank will adapt your food parcel according to the number of adults and children indicated on your voucher. They will also endeavour to provide foods that are age appropriate and in suitable quantities for your children. We can sometimes offer baby foods, but not SMA milk.

I have a baby, can you help with supplies of nappies and baby food?

Our foodbank usually carries a small stock of nappies and baby foods, which we can add to your parcel. Please let us know if you need additional items for your baby. We will also signpost you to local provision of further support where possible.

What if I can’t get to the foodbank centre?

Our service is collection-only. If you are unable to attend the foodbank in person, we are happy for you arrange for someone collect the food parcel on your behalf. This could be a relative, friend, neighbour or referral agent.

How often can I use the foodbank service?

We are a short-term temporary crisis intervention service and are not able to provide longer-term or continuous support. In addition, all of our food supplies are provided by donations from our generous donors and our service is in constant high demand. To ensure we have enough supplies to support everyone who needs us, we operate a service limit of 3 referrals per household in a 6 month period. We will endeavour to let you know if you may be approaching our service limit so that you can arrange for alternative support if needed.

Where can I go if the foodbank is closed or I have reached the limit of foodbank support?

There is a network of community cafés providing free food and hot drinks in the Levenmouth area. Further details can be found on our Community Cafés page. A wide range of support advice can also be found on our.fife.scot/gethelp.
