Fighting Poverty at the Point of Need

Thank you for being one of our referrers. We are extremely pleased you have chosen to engage in the process and look forward to working together. We work alongside professional agencies to supply emergency food to people facing crisis in the Levenmouth area. Without working in partnership with agencies in the community we would be unable to help.

Provision of Emergency Food

The Foodbank gives food to people in crisis, either in emergency food boxes (EFBs), or as bagged food from the foodbank centre run from Leven Baptist Church, Bowling Green Street, Methil. The food includes cereals, milk, fruit juice, soup, pasta, meat, fish, pudding and vegetables, providing balanced and nutritional meals for 3 days. The foodbank also stocks some additional items such as toiletries, nappies, baby food, pet food, tin openers, and extra treats and snacks. All food is supplied in standard branded supermarket bags to provide a degree of anonymity.

If a person or family is identified as requiring emergency food provision, referrals can be made via our data collection system which can be accessed using the following link:

Any referrals made after 2.30pm on Monday or Friday are not guaranteed for the same day. An emergency food bag can be provided, however this only provides enough food for one night and morning so the customer may need additional support from you until the next food bank session.

Once the voucher is issued, contact will be made to arrange a time to pick up food from our centre at Bowling Green Street. People will be offered an appointment between 3:30pm-5pm Monday or Friday. We are unable to deliver but a proxy may pick up a parcel.

Food is donated by churches, individuals, community groups, charities and members of the public. This is a project that involves the whole community. A single person’s food parcel is currently valued at around £38. There is no charge for the service and it is given on the understanding that it is not resold.

Number of Vouchers per Household

The food bank has been established to provide short term, emergency food to an individual or family in crisis while a long-term strategy is developed. Each household can receive 3 food parcels in 6 months. We may ask for some additional information after the third voucher to ensure the person is engaging with the referring agency and to offer signposting when appropriate.

Signposting

In addition to giving food, the Foodbank offers an opportunity for a friendly chat and signposting by directing people to appropriate supports in the community to meet their needs. It is invaluable for us to know about the agencies in the community and what they offer. If there are any projects or services you would like to make the team aware of, please contact the foodbank directly.

 Emergency Food Boxes (EFBs)

We are currently unable to fulfil any food parcel requests out with our operating days of Monday and Friday. We do provide EFBs to our referring partners which can be given to people in need out with these times. Please contact the foodbank directly to discuss if this is the right option for your service.

One Day Food Parcels

We have one day food parcels which can be made available to people in need who do not have a referral or those who are referred after 2.30pm when the warehouse closes. These are not full parcels and are given once only, until a person can obtain a referral or until the next time the foodbank opens. Please note any referrals received after 2.30pm on Monday and Friday can not be guaranteed for the same day.

GDPR

The foodbank is registered with the Information Commissioners Office and is GDPR compliant. Information shared in a referral is kept strictly confidential. The online referral system allows referring agencies to see the date and locations of food bank visits. All staff and volunteers have agreed to a confidentiality agreement.
